Enjoy Learning to Play Guitar
What is cooler than being able to play a guitar? It doesn't matter if you are male or female. There is just something fascinating about a person who can play the guitar. It makes them seem soulful, deeper and interesting.
We all know that playing the guitar can be a fun idea. It can help pass away time. It can help stimulate that musical part of ourselves. It is a way we can show the world, our friends and ourselves that we are talented. But did you also realize that it doesn't have to be a difficult task to learn?
The first step to learning how to play a guitar is, of course, acquiring a guitar. You could buy one new, used or even borrow one.
The next step is to begin learning about the guitar and its basics. You can acquire this knowledge from someone you know who plays the guitar, a real instructor, a book that teaches the basics of guitar playing, software programs that you can buy and use via your computer or even online classes and websites built for teaching one how to play the guitar.
Of course, the only way you are going to learn these basics and eventually learn how to play a song on your newly acquired guitar is through practice. Yes, there are some lucky people who can pick up a guitar and in a matter of minutes are able to pluck the strings in a form of a melody. Yet, this is not your average person. Your average guitar player gets good by lots and lots of practice.
After you get it into your head that you need to practice, now you are ready to learn about your guitar. For the example of this article, we will assume that you are going to learn how to play an acoustic six string guitar. Do you know how to hold it properly? If you guessed that you hold it so your right hand can strum the upper strings if you are right handed and the opposite if you are left handed, you were right. Again, if you are right handed your left hand will be the one that strums or picks the rest of the strings and the opposite is true if you are left handed. Easy enough to remember; right?
If you are wondering what the rest of the guitar is called. Here are those terms.
The wood part is referred to as the body of the guitar. Between the body and the head (where those upper strings are) is the neck. The middle part of the body where the strings begin is called the bridge. These strings connect to the head by turning pegs. Also at the head of the guitar is a fretboard. This fretboard is how the player can change the pitch of a melody.
No matter how you decide to learn to play the guitar, you will probably be told to learn the 12 tones next. If you thought there was 13 tones, in a way you were right. The thirtheenth tone is an octave tone.
What is the best way to learn these tones? Of course, through practice. You will find the style that is easiest for you.
Next you will begin learning the strings of the guitar. Most guitars have six of these. But some do have 12. Most people will want to begin learning on a guitar with six, to make playing easier.
Finally, once you understand how the strings should sound, you will need to learn how to tune your guitar.
That is the basics of guitar playing. Once you begin mastering those three simple steps you could begin putting your knowledge together and begin playing real melodies and real songs.
Remember you have many choices in the way you learn how to play the guitar. If you think an instructor who can give you one on one instructions is the way to go, you can find these in most classified sections of your local newspaper or talking to the sales people at most music stores. If on the other hand, you think you would learn better and feel more confident learning at your own pace, by yourself, remember most local book stores and libraries offers books on guitar playing. Then there is the modern day option of using computers and computer software programs that gives you the best of both alternatives. You are learning at your own pace, alone, yet it is seems like you have an instructor helping you.
